On May 17, the new Medicare for All bills for the current Congressional session were filed in both the House and Senate, the first time that both bills were filed together. Lead sponsor Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) again submitted the House bill, HR 3421, and Sen. Bernie Sanders filed a nearly identical Senate bill, S.1655. As each bill gains additional cosponsors and gets Committee hearings, we'll update this page.
UPDATE Dec 2024: Well, not much happened! And given the status in Washington, DC, it's unlikely that very much will anytime soon. But new Medicare for All bills will be introduced in each house probably in Spring 2025, and we're also hearing talk of a new bill to level the playing field between Original/Traditional Medicare (OT) and Medicare Advantage (MA). That might include setting an Out-of-Pocket cap for OT and adding some benefits that MA heavily markets but only minimally delivers on, like dental, hearing, and vision care. Stay tuned!
